Whether you’re a runner or not, we’re all human and like to do what we can to benefit our friends, family, community, country and the world at large. To that end I’ve collected information on some of the ways I like to give back. May they inspire you to help in whatever way you can.
I’m a big fan of Plus 3 Network, a group dedicated to taking the workouts you do and turning that into charitable donations. I started using their site after hearing about them from Running Warehouse, and have been connected with them since 2010. You can enter your activities manually (which I did for some time) or use their mobile phone app to track your activities. Each activity generates “kudos” which a corporate sponsor turns into dollars for a charity. You workout, a charity gets money… simple! You can check out my Plus 3 Profile or read more about the group.
While they aren’t technically one of our running charities, our local animal shelter in Chico is the Butte Humane Society, providing care and adoption services for dogs, cats and other animals. If you are interested in adoption, volunteering your time or making a donation, please visit their website today. And they’ve got you covered for running as well; you can check out their yearly 5k fundraiser run!
